My husband asked if I had heard about the remake of the Dirty Dancing movie.
I cannot wait until it comes out. To say I loved the original may well be the understatement of the year – and I say a lot of excessively dramatic things, ‘Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner‘ became my mantra for…oh, at least the first 6 months of my early teens. It was huge.
Patrick was divine. D-I-V-I-N-E. Lets be real here, those muscles combined with the black pants and proverbial ‘wife beater’, it was a combination a woman was helpless to resist.
My glazed eyes and full-to-bursting excitement was apparently obvious as hubby looked at me deadpan and said; “well its like the Mona Lisa right? It simply can’t be repainted…”
Anyone that knows him would assume this was vehement sarcasm, but I beg to differ. I saw the glint of excitement in his eyes as he said it, and I’m thinking got more than a little something to do with the fact that Lea Michele has been rumored to play baby. Of course the fact that he followed up with “I wish they didn’t film it in the first place, so I definitely don’t think they should remake the damn thing,” may contradict my thought process here somewhat.
(As an aside my sister’s boyfriend told me at Christmas that I looked like Lea and I haven’t stopped sending him gifts in the mail since. God bless that sweet, sweet man.)
Though there are many, many naysayers out there who claim that a remake will only detract from the original, I disagree.
It will either live up to the original giving fans like me an extra hour and a half of heart wrenching bliss which will only add to the DD empire (such that it is), or it will be a bust. In which case, the original will be all the more iconic standing on its own merit for decades to come.
This is a win-win people. Let the filming begin!
